Plant-Based Island
Plant-Based Island is an introductory seminar for students and activists on the history and politics of plant-based lifeways on tropical islands. Plant-Based furthers a decolonial, bioculturally diverse vision of veganism which is nourished by the experiences and perspectives of the humans and more-than-humans living on islands across the Global South. The seminar enables students to understand and express the connections between environmental justice, decolonization, cultural diversity, and veganism— and in the process, acquire the skills to become global, multicultural vegan activists.

Plant-Based Cosmopolitanism
What does it mean to be a cosmopolitan person, and live in a cosmopolitan society? Such questions have been considered by scholars for decades; but, with a few exceptions, they have rarely been satisfactorily linked to the urgent challenge of cultivating plant-based lifeways in an interconnected, deeply fraught world. This seminar seeks to bridge that gap, creating a space for students to understand and embrace the complex relationships between veganism, multiculturalism, global civil society, and planetary consciousness.
